New high magnetic field record

 

In a transatlan tic collaboration , the Laboratoire National des Champs Magnétiques Pulsés (LNCMP - CNRS/UPS/INSA) has just improved on its own record f or the highest non-destructive pulsed magneticfields. Using an ultra -str ong conductor, developped and produced at the LNCMP, its engi neers have designed and built a new type of coil that has produced a magnetic field of 78 Tesla, powered by the generator of National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Los Alamos (USA). This valu e represents a new European record, only one Japanese laboratory having ever reached the highest value of 82 Tesla . This world record will now be targeted by the LNCMP -NHMFL collaboration.
